Hack Your Health With Nine Easy Tricks
Modern life is busy, and we’re all struggling to balance work, family and social life. Between our commitments, it can be hard to find any time for ourselves or to take care of our own health. Find time to improve your health, no matter how busy you are, with these easy health hacks.
1. Give yourself regular breaks from technology use. Many of us are guilty of spending too much time glued to our laptops or phones. All this screen time can cause health issues, like eye strain, stress and anxiety. Give yourself a break every evening and try to minimise your technology time when you’re not at work.
2. Give yourself a treat with a pampering DIY scrub. You can make an effective scrub at home on a budget using just olive oil and sea salt. Exfoliate with the scrub to get softer skin, and enjoy the relaxing time just for you.
3. Work to maintain good posture. If you work at a desk for most of the day, your back and shoulders, can become stiff and uncomfortable. By setting up your desk in a more ergonomic way and paying attention to the way you sit, you can maintain better posture, relieving the impact on your joints.
4. Take the stairs. Instead of taking the elevator or escalator, take the stairs to get your heart rate up, sneak in some extra activity and add more exercise to your day in an easy way.
5. Choose a primary care doctor that you trust. If you’re putting your health in someone’s hands, you need to be sure it’s the right person. Register with a doctor that you trust and feel comfortable with.
6. Plan your food for the week and try to prep meals and snacks in advance. Meal planning and meal prep is a great way to make sure you eat healthier options, and helps you to avoid the temptation of the takeaway menu or raiding the cookie jar.
7. Take a break from sitting at your desk all day. Being inside in artificial light all day doesn’t do much for your mental health, and staring at a computer screen for hours doesn’t either. Don’t be tempted to skip your lunch hour, and instead use it to take a break from work. If you can, eat your lunch outside, take a walk to the shop or just go for a stroll, to get some natural light, fresh air and a break from the desk.
8. If you’re a tea or coffee drinker, and use sugars or sweeteners, try to cut back or cut them out. The amount of extra sugar you consume by adding it to a drink can really add up, and sweeteners use a lot of artificial chemicals. Try to reduce the amount you use, aiming to cut it out altogether as your tastes adapt.
9. Hydrate. Being properly hydrated gives you more energy during the day, can make you feel more alert and improves the function of your organs and skin. Carry a water bottle to help you get more water in, with minimal effort.
