6 Amazing Reasons to Move Abroad - My Life in the Philippines

You’re on your death bed…

What’s the one thing you’d regret?

Majority of people would say- traveling…

& reflecting upon the world’s current state, I think a priority check is necessary….

I’m Gina.

I quit my 3rd Grade teaching career to move to the Philippines & travel S.E. Asia.

& here’s what I’ve learned…

Travel. Because money returns. Time doesn’t

Cleanse Your Life

Packing our life into 4 bags, cat included, wasn’t easy.

But… once it was done I realized how many unnecessary old T-Shirts, shoes I hadn’t worn in years, & random mugs I accumulated.

All that carries an energy that, once released, opens up so many more doors for other manifestations in your life.

Save Money

Wait seriously? Yes.

In choosing the Philippines & most of S.E. Asia for that matter… we cut our expenses in half.

 IN HALF.

In comparison to living in the U.S., rent, transportation, food, utilities… it’s all mind-bogglingly cheaper.

I’ve found myself back in the U.S. visiting family saying, “THAT LYFT RIDE WAS $60!?”…

when in our reality that same $60 would get a month’s worth of rides.

Forced into Skills

You will start accumulating skill after skill of say for example… how to negotiate freshly caught shrimp for a lower price, understanding someone via only their body language or learning how to create more streams of income digitally.

& let me just go off on a side note rant real quick… with this pandemic occurring, the majority of businesses are adapting digitally anyways so this only gives you a digital nomad advantage!

 But why does this matter?

You start to realize that you aren’t or weren’t just a teacher or lawyer, you’re a bada** creator, entrepreneur, filled with courage & hard-core negotiation tactics.

These skills my friend, these… will take you far in life.

 Courage

Travelers are some of the most courageous people out there. Why?

Well, I’m glad you asked… challenges, like trying exotic foods or swimming with sharks, take courage to overcome.

You name it, I’m sure if you’ve traveled somewhere out of your comfort zone you’ve been placed into a situation that forced you to have great courage.

Courage is the most important of all virtues because without courage, you can’t practice any other virtue consistently.

Real Ones

You’ll most certainly learn not everyone is going to be happy for you… maybe not even your family…

But the one’s that are & mentally put their brain through this loop-

“well if it’s 6 pm here then it has to be your Thursday morning, so that means we’ll facetime you on Thursday… well your Friday… idk!???”…

those friends & family members are keepers.

Same- Same but Different

A little, 7 year old, bracelet selling, Filipina came up to my husband & in a quiet voice uttered,

 “Same- same, but different”

My husband & I both looked at each other confused & our eyes looked back again at the little girl.

She then put her dark complexioned arm next to my husband’s African American arm & we then suddenly exclaimed,

 “ahh yes you’re right!”

She made a connection that day that, her & him were from completely different places, different backgrounds, and had different perspectives of life but in the end they’re the same color.

Sometimes corporate jobs don’t allow for you to grasp this realization, sometimes you need to open your eyes & experience cultures to conclude- people all want the same thing…

… to be loved, appreciated, & noticed.

The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.
— Saint Augustine

Quitting your job to travel isn’t for everyone, but if you have a plan in action, have saved up a little bit of money & most importantly have the courage…

You will not be disappointed.
